MSI GX600M Notebook

Thanks to Altech Computers, I was handed a MSI GX600M Notebook for review. These 15.4" Notebooks are design with the "gamer" in mind, with a built in NVIDIA Geforce 8600M GT 512MB, 2GB of Corsair RAM, eSata port, HDMI and a 250GB Sata HDD, it goes pretty well!

I'm personally not the biggest notebook fan out there, so being a gamer and told that this was a "gaming" notebook, I had to try it out.
It actually impressed me! The one thing that sets this notebook apart from the others is the special "boost" button, which is meant to instantly (and safely) overclock the GX600M's RAM & CPU up 20%. The downside to it is that you can only do it while plugged into the powerpack. Below is two screenshots (Apologies for quality
), one with the Windows Vista (yes, it comes with Vista Home Premium) rating BEFORE and DURING the overclocking.

Key thing to note is the significant jump in CPU & RAM scores. Unfortunately, the rating system is flawed to only use the lowest scoring object, which is the HDD (can't really do much about that). But it is good to see that it can be pushed significantly at the touch of a button. Not many notebooks (if any) in this price range (RRP $2499) can actually be overclocked at all due to heating issues, however the GX600M actually runs quite silently and not overly hot.

Regarding noise, I was a little shocked the first time I turned it on. A friend commented that he didn't believe me it was actually on; it is that silent. When you use the "turbo boost" button, it does vamp the noise up but that has to be expected. The only other thing that makes noise is the DVD drive.
The only thing I didn't really like was the piano finish on the top and below the keyboard as it is extremely prone to finger prints and mess but it does look really sexy. I did have a quick bash on some games in single player and it ran pretty well, only downside of course is that you need to plug in a mouse but there is substantial amounts of USB ports for it.
